Al Wayman

Picture

I put my wheel and kilns in storage for a long and sad 10 years while working in the manufacturing industry. When we bought our new home, I put in a small studio and dug out my wheel and kiln. It has been an incredible time working with clay again, and I was encouraged by my family to sell some of my functional work. I continued almost where I left off.  I have been studying textures on functional ceramics, making conventional forms a work of art for people to enjoy while using them. I hope you enjoy the work

Lura Trossello

Picture

I spin a variety of sheep’s wool, alpaca, llama, rabbit and even dog hair. In addition I hand paint or dye the wool and then make knitted or felted items. From the handspun yarn, I’ve made fingerless gloves (or wrist warmers), dryer balls, hats, shawls and scarves. I also make goat’s milk soap.

COLLEEN BROWN

Picture

Colleen has been making button bouquets for a long time. She started making them after seeing the process while volunteering at the Wyalusing personal care home, and thought they were "really cool."  She figures out how many buttons to use according to the size container and also makes pictures with buttons. Colleen takes requests from people, if they have any special container or sign they would like designed with buttons.

JOAN HUDYNCIA

Picture

Joan and Mike Hudyncia have been raising registered Shetland sheep for 20 years on their Wysox Sweet Grass Farm. The Shetland breed, originally from the Shetland Islands of Scotland, is prized for its fine wool fiber and sturdy, sweet nature. Joan hand processes their fleeces into spinning wool, yarn, woven fabric and knitted items. A true labor of love.

FRED HILL

Picture

Fred is a retired university professor (Ph. D. in the biological sciences who last worked at Bloomsburg
University and retired in 2003). Using his interest in the sciences, he has built an internationally known
wood art business (Fred’s Creative Woodworking). His wife, Val and he bought a run-down property just
above Camptown and have extensively remodeled it over the years. Along with all of that remodeling
Fred has developed a business making both a large number of items for quilters and a variety of wood
art. His work sells through his website over the entire US and several other countries. Val has a longarm
quilting business that she operates out of our home.
The items Fred has that you will see for sale at the Blue Heron are one-of-a-kind and just a sampling of
what he has for sale from his website (www.FrederickCHill.com) . You will notice that he likes distressed
wood as it speaks to him of the way life is. The cracks and holes are welcome in the wood he works and
often accentuated using techniques that he has perfected.
Each item that you see for sale from him is unique. If one looks at the creative expression involved in
making the pieces, it is clear that they are bargains. Each piece that he makes is individually hand-made,
hand-signed, dated, and wood type indicated on the bottom of the piece. These are pieces that will
appreciate in value over the years.
Most of the wood that he uses is from local sources but he has a weak spot for Australian burls! He
plans on having at least one representative piece of the Australian wood for sale at the Blue Heron. If
you don’t see it, please ask!
